Basic Function of the Job:

Assist Research, Development and Engineering senior staff.  The day-to-day activities include prototype fabrication, process optimization, data collection, characterization, and reporting.  The prototyping activity will utilize machine tools such as lapping machines, metrology/inspection equipment, vacuum furnaces, kilns, rollers and vibration tables are other. In addition, this position requires excellent communication, organization and documentation skills, and an ability to interface effectively with employees within and external to the R&D group.  The Development R&D Engineer applies scientific and engineering principles to implement experimental plans without standard procedures, and provides quantitative and qualitative observations for continuous material, process, and product improvement in line with the roadmap and growth strategy of the company.  In addition, the Development Engineer participates in the transfer of successful development efforts from R&D to Manufacturing, providing documentation and training.  A strong ability to create and follow work policies is needed (ISO, MSDS, SOPs, other).

Education:  BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

Experience/Skills:

  • 1-5 years experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Desired technical background includes: proficient reading engineering drawings, experienced with metrology techniques (CMM and manual tools), working knowledge of ceramics and metals, and understanding of advanced machining methods
  • Aptitude to process materials and fabricate prototypes with new processes where SOPs and Standard Work are not yet developed or in place
  • Interest in materials processing and advanced machining techniques, and willingness to work with your hands
  • Understanding of MSDS documentation, and ability to use new materials and chemicals in a safe manner
  • Ability to generate and develop creative solutions to problems
  • Keen interest in quickly learning and applying new skills
  • Ability to achieve results independently or working in a team
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities involving external and internal priorities
  • Ability to excel in a cross-organizational, cross cultural, global team environment
  • Handle special assignments promptly and professionally
  • Set a high standard of ethics, professionalism, leadership, and competency
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results independently or working with others
  • Ability to recommend and implement improvements
  • Experience with networked PC based computer system (MS Office, spreadsheets, access, graphics, Email, MRP systems, and accounting software)
