Primary Job Function:

Responsible for battery technology and product development activities for CTO's Platform Technology Development and Incubation; Responsible for internal and contract battery development projects;  Leads projects and research tasks with internal and external partners;  Focusing on new technology and new product development, the incumbent will advance processes for laboratory, pilot, and full-scale materials manufacturing;  Manage the group to serve as a corporate resource serving internal needs within areas of expertise; Ensures that the battery development programs are scientifically/technically sound and produce maximum impact/benefit in support of II-VI CTO platform technology development and incubation's goals and directions. Ensures that the battery development personnel are highly informed, motivated and coordinated in pursuit of the highest level of battery development output that is realistically feasible and attainable; This position emphasizes the ability to assimilate and apply knowledge from a combination of disciplines including chemistry, physics, engineering, material science, technology and business management including project financial justifications and analysis.

Job Requirements:


  • Ph.D in chemistry, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, physics, or other engineering disciplines.  Candidates with Six Sigma Black Belt certification and advanced business degrees given special consideration.


  • Ten years experience in battery technology and its related advanced material development and manufacturing process.

Special Abilities:

  • Hands-on experience in: Developing and documenting battery and its material production processes and equipment and in Chemistry lab and Industrial Manufacturing environments.
  • Expert in
  • Battery Designs and Fabrications of coin cell, pouch cell, and battery system
  • Battery testing for high power applications and high energy applications
  • Battery safety testing and designs for battery safety
  • Battery Material development
  • Cathode, anode, separator, charge collectors, current harvesting, and their modifications
  • Electrolyte optimization
  • Packaging for safety and for optimal energy/power densities
  • Shipping and handling of battery
  • Industrial, government and military battery product specs and testing protocols.
  • Battery simulations involving electro-chemical, thermal, electrical, chemical, mechanical, etc., in special software or in multi-physic setting.
  • Entrepreneurial, Positive and Can-Do Mind-Set and Attitude
  • Strong computer skills, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong project management and organization skills. Able to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to work with employees in a multi-cultural, global team environment.
  • Experience in SPC, Six Sigma, Lean, MBNQA, and TQM techniques
  • Strong IP Creation and Protection skills
