Job purpose

 The function that is led by the Chief Risk Officer

  • Oversees the company's governance and strategy for global risk management and compliance, including relationships with insurance brokers and companies, key regulators, and supervisory institutions worldwide.
  • Builds a business strategy that identifies, analyzes and mitigates risks could threaten the company, including operational, physical, competitive, regulatory, and technological threats.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Develop and implement an enterprise-wide risk management plan and function.
  • Consult with the Board of Directors and Executive Management in establishing a risk management program consisting of effective controls, compliance policies, processes and methods necessary to assess and manage the company's overall and business unit risk profiles.
  • Provide independent oversight and guidance for managing risk and ensuring compliance, including the development and implementation of risk management measures across the company.
  • Lead efforts to build and sustain a strong and deep risk culture in which all employees embrace and act on their responsibility to manage strategic, market, compliance, operational and reputational risks.
  • Conduct periodic measurement of the company's risk profiles through development and implementation of specific in-house risk adjusted performance measurement systems.
  • Provide independent and objective risk assessment reports and recommendations to the Board of Directors and Executive Management.
  • Structure and placing the company's insurance program, including Property, General Liability, Worker's Compensation, Environmental, Cyber, Auto, D&O, Umbrella, and other coverage.
  • Oversee the management of the company's insurance claims.

 

Qualifications

 

Work experience

  • Previous experience with the C-Suite and reporting to the Boards is desirable, in a risk management, operations, finance, legal or compliance function.

Education 

  • Post graduate education and over 20 years of experience in risk management, accounting, economics, or legal positions.

Skills & Competencies Required 

  • Knowledge of how value is created for customers, the regulatory environment, relevant industry standards and best practice.
  • Expertise in managing the most important risks in companies with a risk profile similar to the company (e.g. operational risks)
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Keen business acumen
  • Strong process orientation
  • "Cool under fire": must be objective and able to call issues as they see them and if necessary communicate what may be a contrarian message

Working conditions

Travel to the company's locations globally is required.

Direct reports

None at this time. The Chief Risk Officer will be expected to build an organization of size and scope to address the company's risk management profile.
