Basic Function of the Job

This position will be hired for the New Product Introduction (NPI) design team of II-VI Photop Division. As a critical member of an innovation driven team of engineers and scientists, you will be responsible for directly interfacing with our customers, researching, designing, developing, testing, and qualifying optical systems and opto-mechanical assemblies. This may include objectives, microscope sub-assemblies, interferometry or spectrophotometry systems, LiDAR, life science, machine vision and other imaging or illumination systems. Moreover, provide profound expertise and technical supports of opto-mechanical engineering for customers, design engineers, sales marketing team and manufacturing groups.

Job Requirements


  • MS or Ph. D in Mechanical Engineering, Opto-mechanical instrumentation, precision instrumentation, Mechanics or automation. Advanced education qualifications would be a plus. Candidates with suitable hands-on experience with a BS degree will be considered in exceptional circumstances.


  • 3+ years' experience in opto-mechanical/mechanical design, simulation, testing, and inspection of optical imaging systems, laser, illumination or other optical systems
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in supporting customers in mechanical design and simulations for optics, laser, life science, LiDAR, machine vision and other related industries
  • Experienced in working with customers and engineering team to effectively and successfully bring optical products through product life cycle from prototyping to volume production

Special Skills

  • Strong foundation in mechanics, materials, physics, math, theoretical modeling, and thermal simulation
  • Proficient in using mechanical design tool e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD, ProE to do mechanical system design, optimization, system analysis, tolerance analysis, thermal analysis and assembly as well
  • Hands-on experiences in mechanical instrumentation for industries within life science, machine vision, laser, LiDAR or optical metrology
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with mechanical components and modules in such as objectives, microscope sub-assemblies, imaging modules, illumination and laser systems
  • Able to utilize various equipment and to develop test plans for optical components, assemblies and systems for engineering and production
  • Demonstrate ability to DfX, DfM and to solve complex issues in mechanical design and opto-mechanical product development
  • Preferred experience of working in a fast paced optical or optronics manufacturing environment, especially dealing with multiple projects of optical and opto-mechanical assemblies
  • Be flexible and work efficiently in a multi-site, cross-organizational, cross cultural, global team environment
  • Leadership and the ability to work highly independently with minimal guidance from supervisor on specific tasks
  • The ability to work and deliver on aggressive schedules
  • Preferred U.S. Citizen or Permanent Residence due to possible sensitive IP discussion with U.S. customers
